Joburg East cluster policewomen host Women’s month campaign

BEREA – Female police and Metro officers tackle crime in honour of women's month.

Female police officers from across the Johannesburg East cluster came together for a roadblock and awareness campaign within the precinct this past week.

The operation, hosted together with their Metro police counterparts, took place in Berea and saw 105 female officers conduct a stop-and-search as well as distribute pamphlets on domestic abuse.

Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo, spokesperson for the Hillbrow Police Station, explained that the operation was organised as part of the celebrating Women’s month. “This is an initiative of the cluster, in line with celebrating Women’s Month, and it started off with a parade and ended off with third roadblock and awareness campaign,” he said.

Adding to this was Colonel Lindiwe Magudulela, commander for visible policing at the Jeppe Police Station, explained that the operation included a search for drugs, dangerous weapons, suspected stolen property and firearms and stolen or hijacked vehicles.

She also praised the operation, hailing it a success and highlighted that it was important for female officers to play their part in honouring the 1956 Women’s march. “It’s important that we emulate what those women fought for by playing our part in reducing crime within our cluster,” she said.

The stop-and-search operation took place between Joe Slovo and Abel roads and began at 11am. The Johannesburg East cluster includes the Hillbrow, Parkview, Rosebank, Jeppe, Cleveland, Yeoville and Norwood Police Stations.
