King David comes out tops

LINSKFIELD – Local school impresses at the Discovery football showdown.

King David Primary Schools excelled at the recent Discovery Knockout Cup, a soccer competition contested by primary schools around Johannesburg.

A total of 120 schools participated in the Knockout Cup. Six age groups from U9 to U14 took part in elimination rounds in their categories, which started in May, and culminated in the finals at Diggers Rugby Club in Randburg.

King David Primary School Linksfield remarkably had three teams – U13, U12 and U 9 – in the hotly contested finals and they all won their games. The King David Primary School Sandton U10 team also reached the finals and drew first place.

Steven Bainbridge, head sports coach of King David Senior Primary said, “After hours of practice and extremely hard work, our soccer players showed both skill and good sportsmanship. We are exceptionally proud of our King David teams.”

The programme kicked off with the area trial and the Discovery Festival in May, and proceeded to the Discovery Knockout Cup preliminary rounds in June, leading to the finals in August.

The Discovery tournament started in 2009 and involves schools that are affiliated to the Johannesburg Primary Schools Football Association.
