New Ward 74 councillor ready to engage with residents

JOBURG – Dave Fisher promises to deliver for Ward 74 residents..

Following the highly-anticipated Local Municipal Elections, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has retained Ward 74.

David Fisher, the new councillor for the ward said he is extremely happy with the result. He said he is looking forward to representing all the residents in the ward, and expressed his thanks and gratitude to the 7 800 plus voters who braved the cold and, in some cases, long queues to express their choice for him through the ballot box.

He also thanked his election team and volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the long campaign and on election day to ensure the great result. “I hope to create and facilitate an environment where we can combine our efforts to address the aspirations of all the role players in our community.”

He pointed out that, as a cohesive group and by concentrating on combined efforts in resolving issues and improving the suburbs, residents would all enjoy the benefits of his endeavours. Fisher took over from Jack Cooper who was the councilor for the area over the past five years.

Ward 74 covers the suburbs of Melrose, Melrose Estate, Birdhaven, Orchards, Rouxville, Highlands North, Raydene, Greswold, Kew, Bramley, Elton Hill, The Gardens and Winston Ridge.

He appealed to each and every resident to take an active role in the ward and society. “We are the eyes and ears of our neighbourhood,” he said.

“We should report issues to the relevant service providers, get reference numbers and follow up to ensure the complete and successful resolution of the issue.”

The new councillor has been involved in Ward 74 as chairperson of the DA branch and in Ward 73 as campaign manager for a successful by-election. “I will endeavour to serve the residents of Ward 74 with enthusiasm and dignity and to advance the DA’s aim of freedom, fairness and opportunity.”
