Fraudster nabbed in Yeoville

YEOVILLE – A suspect using false identity documents was nabbed thanks to a tip-off.

A male in his late 30s was arrested for fraud on 28 April on Muller Street in Yeoville.

According to the spokesperson for Yeoville Police Station Constable Thabo Malatji, police members received a tip-off about a male who applied for a credit card using fraudulent details.

“The suspect was waiting for the delivery of the credit cards when the police acted as the delivery people. When approached and presented with the consignment, the suspect gave the undercover cops a copy of an identity document which is fraudulent,” said Malatji.

He said the undercover police officers arrested him and the suspect then provided his real documents, which were not similar to the ones he had used to apply for the credit card.

The suspect is expected to appear at Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon facing charges of fraud.
