Cable theft suspect nabbed

SANDRINGHAM - Sandringham Police arrested one suspect Donne Crescent in Lombardy East on 03 February for charges of possession of suspected stolen copper cables valued at R10 000.

Sandringham police officers arrested one suspect at Donne Crescent next to Lombardy East, on 3 February on a charge of possession of suspected stolen copper cables valued at R10 000.

According to Lieutenant Ramonkung Thobejane of Sandringham Police Station, the 34-year-old suspect said he was hired by four black males to collect the cables and promised to pay him R100.

“The other four suspects fled the scene when they saw the police. The arrested suspect was driving a silver grey Toyota Avanza. The police were patrolling as part of a special operation in all areas under the Sandringham Police Station, when they caught the suspect,” said Thobejane.

Thobejane said the theft of copper cables is a huge problem in the area; and on a side note, he also urged owners of Toyota Avanzas to screen drivers before hiring them, as most of these Avanzas are used to collect stolen property.
