UPDATE: Police aware of serial daylight robberies in Hillbrow (VIDEO)
HILLBROW- According to an Intelligence Bureau Youtube video, Bad Boyz security company has released CCTV footage showing a man robbing multiple people at the Vanin Court Building in Hillbrow, in broad daylight.
UPDATE: 9 February 2016, 1:30pm – Following a video that was posted on the Intelligence Bureau’s Facebook page of robberies in Hillbrow, Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo from Hillbrow Police Station has indicated that police are aware of the situation.
Zondo stated that the police are constantly patrolling Quartz and Pietersen streets in Hillbrow, as this seems to be a regular spot for criminals.
“A number of people have been arrested for robberies in this area over time, however, when robberies happen, the suspects run into a block of flats which makes it challenging for us to find them,” added Zondo.
Due to the fact that this is a common spot where muggings occur, Zondo stated that many people who have been victim to these crimes have stopped reporting it to the police.
“We are looking at alternative mechanisms to try and combat crime in this given area, and Hillbrow as a whole,” Zondo concluded.
INITIAL REPORT: 8 February 2016, 11am – The video indicated that the incident took place on Quartz and Pietersen streets in Hillbrow.
Spokesperson from Hillbrow Police Station, Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo has been contacted for comment.
