The cousin of the late Nkululeko Habedi, popularly known Flabba, told the court how the musician passed away in the early hours on 9 March at his home in Alexandra.

Hip-hop musician, Habedi, was a member of Skwatta Kamp. He was stabbed to death at his home on 3rd Avenue Alexandra, allegedly by his girlfriend, Sindisiwe Manqele.

On Monday, Manqele arrived at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court with her friends and family. Her face was again covered with a scarf as it has been throughout the trial.

Luyanda Silupa, Flabba’s cousin, told the court that the two had a verbal argument which went on for about 30 minutes before Manqele allegedly stabbed Habedi with what Silupa called a bread knife.

WATCH:

“I saw what looked like a bread knife on the foot of the bed, later I saw it next to the body of the deceased,” said Silupa as he began weeping. Court was adjourned to give him time to compose himself.

Manqele sat quietly as she listened to Silupa’s testimony. Matters heated up when Silupa was being cross-examined by Manqele’s defence lawyer, Norman Makhubela, and Silupa looked to be losing his cool.

The second witness, Habedi’s cousin Mpho Motsoari, also told the court that there was a fight between the two. Motsoari was asked by Makhubela if he had consumed alcohol and dagga that night and said, “Yes, I had two beers and one joint that night at around 10pm, then I stopped because I was tired that day.”

The case continues at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.
