Robbed by the hand that protects you

ILLOVO - A security guard, who works for SSG Security, was robbed by another alleged security officer on 12 June at the Tower Group business premises on Hurlingham Road, Illovo.

During a foot patrol, the suspect was grabbed by his neck from behind, handcuffed and instructed by the suspect to walk into the office building and lie on the floor of the cleaners room.

The suspect searched the victim and stole two cellphones, which were not insured, to the value of R2 000. The suspect threatened to shoot the victim in the head if he moved.

The victim said that while being pushed onto the floor, he noticed that the jacket of the suspect resembled that of a jacket worn by a security officer who worked for the same security firm.

After two hours of laying on the floor, the security guard called for the guard in the neighbouring premises. The security patrol van arrived on the scene and upon investigation, it was found that entry was gained through the building’s ceiling.

The director of the company was then called and upon inspecting the scene, found that eight Lenovo computer boxes and screens, computer cables, keyboards and a fridge had been stolen. The goods stolen amount to R 120 000.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela from Bramley Police Station said, “Police managed to arrest the suspect as there were CCTV cameras on the premises.” According to Maphakela, the suspect which was arrested was a security guard from the same security company.

The suspect appeared in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 26 June on charges of theft.
