Healthcare fun with Joburg hospitals

FOURWAYS – HEALTHCARE staff at Netcare Sunninghil Hospital are always busy, so finding time to celebrate a cause in between all the hard work is a big thing.

As highly regarded as doctors and emergency medical service staff are, it’s up to certain staff to keep the ball rolling and to ensure patients are kept as comfortable as possible. These are, of course, the nurses who work day and night to ensure a full recovery of any person admitted to the hospital.

With International Nurses Day taking place recently, nurses at Netcare Sunninghill Hospital lit candles to honour their tireless and caring colleagues; and also took a Netcare pledge which stated:

“I solemnly pledge myself to the service of humanity and will endeavour to practice my profession with conscience and with dignity.

“I will maintain, by all the means in my power, the honour and noble tradition of my profession. The total health of my patients will be my first consideration.

“I will hold in confidence all personal matters coming to my knowledge.

“I will not permit consideration of religion, nationality, race or social standing to intervene between my duty and my patient.

“I will maintain the utmost respect for human life.

“I make these promises solemnly, freely and upon my honour.”

The hospital also had some fun recently when they hosted Take a Girl Child to Work Day, and 18 pupils from Alexandra High School, Waverley Girls’ High and Vaal High School were invited to attend.

“They spent a fun and informative day learning about the workings of a hospital and the many career opportunities open to them,” said Netcare Sunninghill Hospital spokesperson, Pip Kruger.

“The event closed with the hospital manager, Pieter Louw, handing out certificates of attendance and a motivational message.”
