Enjoy a championship cat show

SANDRINGHAM- The Jabula Recreation Centre will host The Cat Fancier's Club of South Africa and a championship cat show on 6 and 7 June.

The event will allow for the community to see the proud owners’ beautiful cats of different breeds.

During the morning, the cats will be judged in their various classes.

At about 3pm, the main Best in Show judging will take place where the best cats out of the various sections will compete to determine the section winners and eventually the Best Exhibit on Show. A number of judges from Gauteng will officiate.

The event will be sponsored by the well-known pet food manufacturer Royal Canin.

About 150 entries are expected. Various breeds will be on show, including Persians, the majestic and imposing Maine Coons, Norwegian forest cats, British shorthairs, Burmese, Siamese and Orientals.

A number of less well-known breeds such as Birmans, Siberians, Cornish Rex, Devon Rex, hairless Sphynx, and LaPerms will also be represented.

A few cats of the Don Sphynx breed, another hairless breed which was recently recognised in the organisation, will also be on show.

In addition to the show, a second event will follow on 7 June at the same venue. This will combine a smaller show for kittens and unregistered household pets only, with expos on selected breeds, among others Persians, British and Maine Coons. This event will be open from 9am to 1pm.

The shows offer an ideal opportunity for members of the public who may be considering acquiring a pedigreed kitten to meet reputable breeders and discuss with them the attributes of the breeds they are interested in.

Various vendors dealing in cat-related products such as scratching posts, toys, grooming tools and many other articles will exhibit and sell their products at the shows.

A small entrance fee will be charged.
