Roedean School spearheads programmes

JOBURG - Roedean School (SA) has initiated a programme called the Roedean Academy, which offers extra tuition to 100 Grade 8 to Grade 12 girls from Barnato Park High School and Masibambane College.

This year, Roedean has had a successful start with the academy increasing its numbers to 100 girls. The focus continues to be the provision of extra tuition in mathematics, physical science, and English to Grade 10 to 12 girls and extra mathematics tuition for Grade 8 and 9 girls. This year, the programme will include accounting for Grade 10 to Grade 12 pupils and English for Grade 8 and 9 pupils.

A total of 19 Roedean Academy girls from Barnato Park High School and Masibambane College wrote the final National Senior Certificate examinations last year with a pass rate of 100 percent. A total of 15 girls also received Bachelor Degree passes.

Kenstonia Edende was the top achiever last year, achieving an average of 84.3 percent, with distinctions in mathematics, Afrikaans, life orientation, accounting, life sciences and physical sciences. The whole group achieved 31 distinctions, including two for mathematics and one for physical science.

Lihle Khumalo, a Grade 11 pupil says, “I like coming to the Roedean Academy because it has helped my maths and science so much. We also get to use the internet and learn how to use the computer. I also like the lunch that we get given. Being around Roedean is so much fun because we are like family here.”
