Elderly men fall victim to fraudster

YEOVILLE - A FRAUDSTER has been targeting a popular old age home in Johannesburg.

The Yeoville police and IRS Forensic Investigations are assisting two elderly men who have been conned by an individual who allegedly stole money from one of the men and a motor vehicle from the other.

According to one of the victims, the suspect gains his target’s trust and then steals from them. It is estimated that the amount of money stolen from one of the men is more than R50 000, and the other man’s Opel Cub was stolen.

Chad Thomas of IRS Forensic Investigations said, “We are working on the case on a pro bono basis. Paul Farrow from IRS, assisted by our field investigators Jarod Paul and Enock Masingi, is part of the investigation. It is alleged that this is not the first time the suspect has used this modus operandi to scam people. We expect other victims to come forward shortly.”

Thabo Malatji of Yeoville police said, “We are urging the public to come forward and help find the location of the stolen Opel Cub. The registration of the vehicle is LWJ337GP.”

Thomas added, “We take our role as an independent investigation service provider very seriously and will always try to assist our community and the South African Police Services wherever necessary.”
