Sacred College does swimmingly

JOBURG - THE Sacred Heart College swimming team has been performing terrifically this season.

They started training during the second week of the term and have had an eventful season ever since. Their First League gala took place on 22 January when the college faced tough competition. They, however, emerged victoriously out of the six competing schools.

Sacred Heart College also completed the Midmar Mile, with six of their swimmers competing for the first time.

The College’s most prestigious event of the season is the annual inter-Catholic gala. This year the competition was a demanding one with worthy opponents. Of the seven participating boy’s schools, Sacred Heart placed third; and of the six participating girl’s schools, the college placed second. Out of the five co-educational schools, Sacred Heart College placed first.

The College hosted the final league gala on 24 February with three visiting schools. The College performed well and placed second overall.

All of this has been in preparation for the most important event of the season, the inter-high gala at the JCE Pool, Wits Parktown Campus on 3 March where the college participates in the A league. Swimmers who are placed first or second in an individual event, or teams that are placed first in a relay event qualify to attend the Prestige Gala on 10 March at the Ellis Park pool.

Cindy Niken, Sacred College swimming coach said, “I have no doubt that Sacred Heart College will be represented in this gala, I am incredibly proud of each and every swimmer and what they have achieved this season.” She wished them every success for the inter-high ahead.
