According to Hillbrow police spokesperson, Sergeant Nduduzi Zondo, the 25 year-old man approached a security guard while the guard was at a shop on the corner of Quartz and Citizen streets. The suspect disarmed the security guard, stole his weapon and fled the scene.
Police who were in the vicinity, witnessed the suspect running down the street with a firearm and gave chase. When they apprehended him, they found him in possession of an unlicensed firearm containing four live rounds.
The man was arrested and will be charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“Police are all over the street. Suspects should not try to take chances because we will catch them,” said Zondo.
