Orchards set to undergo renovations

OAKLANDS - ORCHARDS clinic, located on the corner of Louis Botha and Oaklands streets, is scheduled to undergo major renovations.

Peter Mathole, a manager at the clinic, has advised North Eastern Tribune that they are going to shut their doors towards the end of January to start the refurbishments. Mothole said, “The clinic is going to be closed for 24 months.” He added, “The local government has plans to expand the clinic in order to accommodate more patients.”

The major concern is, where are all the patients in the area to go when the project takes place?

Warren Boshoff, a local resident, came forward with his concerns. He said, “The closest clinics to where Orchards is located are Alexandra and Hillbrow. It costs R11 one way and therefore R22 return for residents without their own transport.” He added, “Patients normally go to clinics because they aren’t well. This forces them to travel to either Alexandra or Hillbrow for treatment which is unfair. How will they be able to treat the influx of people needing attention.”

Mathole responded that, “The residents have brought this to our attention. We shall keep them informed as to a solution to the matter.”
