Man nabbed with 80 packets of heroin in Hillbrow

HILLBROW – Hillbrow police nabbed a Rustenburg man who was allegedly in possession of 80 packets of heroin in Hillbrow.

According to police, the incident took place when they were conducting their routine stop-and-search patrol at the corner of Nugget and Petersen streets.

Hillbrow police spokesperson Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said the police saw a man who was walking on the street and looked suspicious. He said the man looked suspicious because he tried to change his direction when he saw the police. “Police went to him, stopped the man and asked to search him.

“When they searched him, the police found 80 small packets of heroin hidden in his pockets,” Zondo said.

He said the police arrested the suspect, confiscated the drugs and detained the suspect at Hillbrow Police Station and he was charged for drug possession.

Zondo said the value of the drugs was estimated at R1 600 on a street value. He said the police believed that the suspect was using and that looking at the amount of the drugs, it was also possible that he was also selling. The 25-year-old suspect was expected to appear at the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court.
