Karate kids show fighting spirit

LINKSFIELD - KARATE afficionados at the Russell Sim Karate Academy showed their worth at the recent Gauteng Provincial All-Styles Trials.

Eighteen members from the Linksfield-based academy have been selected to represent Gauteng Provincial All-Styles karate team after excelling at the recent Gauteng Provincial All-Styles Trials, where they represented Ekurhuleni District. The competitive youngsters were selected out of 24 students from the dojo.

Based on their achievements, they were selected to represent their region, and are now waiting to represent their province at the Karate South Africa National Championships, which is due to take place in Johannesburg in March next year. Competitors in the national championships will be recognised with an award of official Gauteng Karate Colours by the Gauteng Department of Sport.

All-Styles karate does not limit participants to a particular style, and is instead open to all karate schools in the country. Participants from the Russell Sim Karate Academy competed and excelled in both individual and team events in kumite and kata styles in the Gauteng trials, bringing home an impressive 35 medals, including 15 gold, eight silver and 12 bronze.
