Breakfast with Thuli Madonsela

ROUXVILLE - WORKING moms are invited to an inspirational breakfast in celebration of the roles women play in building and sustaining communities at the Sydenham Highlands North Community Centre.

The unassuming facade of the community centre only serves to hide the dynamic role the centre plays within the local community. Home to multiple initiatives, it boasts a school and an adult college of education; five welfare funds, two synagogues – each with its own thriving congregation; and regular lectures that serve to develop and educate community members.

The centre’s latest event, the fifth annual Women’s Breakfast, will raise much-needed funds to support the ongoing work of the centre in the community, while providing an opportunity for working mothers to unite in mutual celebration of women who are in the daily business of nurturing and caring.

This year’s working moms will be joined by Adv Thulisile (Thuli) Nomkhosi Madonsela who was recently named South Africa’s most powerful person and listed among Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people. Her name is synonymous with integrity, honour and the promise of a corruption-free nation.

Among her remarkable achievements, Madonsela forfeited a Harvard scholarship to help draft South Africa’s post-apartheid Constitution, and is co-architect of Justice Vision 2000, the National Action Plan on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights; the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act; the Employment Equity Act; and the Local Government Transition Act.

Joining Johannesburg moms over breakfast, Madonsela will share her views on the integral roles women play in their communities, and inspire women through her role as an architect for justice and the embodiment of responsible and accountable power.

An audience of 300 working moms is expected to attend, enjoying a catered breakfast, pamper hampers, fashion and cosmetic sales, and the chance to win big with spot prizes and a raffle.

The community centre is appealing to corporates for headline and table sponsorship, as well as support with donations towards costs or prizes and giveaways.
