City Park’s budget constraints limit parks’ revamp

GLENHAZEL - IT SEEMS that budget constraints at City Parks are a major limitation in revamping parks in and around Glenhazel.

Ward 32 councillor Steven Kruger, revealed that he and other residents, including Julio Woznica, Denny Rademeyer and Justin Glickman had been interacting with City Parks to try and improve some of the parks in Glenhazel, and that some progress has been made.

One is a small park located on the corner of Park Circle and Cross Road. It is surrounded by apartment blocks and retail businesses. “It has become a popular venue for caregivers and toddlers to congregate and enjoy the sunshine,” said Kruger.

“The trouble was that the park was covered in litter and devoid of any seating. Local resident Julio Woznica as well as other residents from the area, noticed this and I took up the matter with Jerome Ogle, Region E manager for City Parks.”

Kruger said, in record time, Ogle arranged for a team to provide benches and rubbish bins, changing the character of the park for the better.

“Many thanks to Ogle and City Parks for their prompt attention,” said Kruger. However he said there more needed to be done in park but City Park’s had limited budget.

However, he said that still on City Parks’ ‘to do’ list for the park was the promised ‘colonial step-over pole fence’ to stop children from running into the adjoining road.

He added that there was a need for additional playground equipment but because of the budget constraints at City Parks they were struggling to put that in place. Kruger added because of that one resident had offered to donate a used jungle gym and slide to the park, but these still needed to be inspected by City Parks to ensure that they were safe.
