Residents urged to attend CPF meetings

The Norwood Community Policing Forum has encouraged members of the community to attend the forum's monthly meetings.

Chairperson, Duncan Barker said it was important that residents attended such meetings as they were able to interact with the police as well as members of the forum.

He added that in order to eradicate crime, residents needed to get involved with organisations such as the forum. “The organisation can only succeed in it’s objectives if individuals and community members participate, and we fight crime hand in hand with our local police. By doing this you can directly improve the safety of your family, employees and property,” said Barker.

He encouraged residents to attend monthly public meetings and to provide the police with information about suspicious behaviour in the area. “Another way to get involved would be to join the number of people offering their skills and services to the forum,” he said.

The meetings take place at the Norwood Police Station barracks in the boardroom and start at 6pm.

Barker said people could also get involved by volunteering in the Victim Support Unit. He said,”One can also join the organisation’s committee which is always looking for people as well as trained counsellors such as psychologists, social workers or students to help on a voluntary basis.”

The forum also welcomes people who would like to contribute their time and or skills to help make the community a better and safer place to live. “Volunteering as little as an hour a week can make all the difference,” said Barker.
