Yeoville police make many arrests

Yeoville was hit by criminal activities recently with police making a handful of arrests.

Yeoville police have made a handful of arrests in the past week.

In one of the incidents, a man was arrested for being in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle at the corner of Hopkins Street and Cavendish Road. According to police they received information about a vehicle that was hijacked in Soweto.

Its tracker signal was picked up in in Yeoville.

Yeoville police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji said they found a man sitting in the vehicle and he was arrested for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.” He was expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.

In another incident, police were on their routine stop and search patrol when they arrested five suspects for being in possession of dagga in Rockey Street. Malatji said the suspects were detained at Yeoville Police Station and were expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court.

Another five people were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol. The police conducted a roadblock at the corner of Rockey and De la Rey streets. Malatji said, “Five drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. All the suspects are expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court soon.”
