Waverley nursery gives back to community

Prestige Baby and Kidz academy Waverley Nursery wings projects and The Lighthouse to the Nations Church Norwood will be launching empowerment projects to help the impoverished community of Diepsloot.

Prestige Baby and Kidz Academy Nursery based in Waverley is to launch an empowerment project to help the impoverished community of Diepsloot.

This will be done in conjunction with The Lighthouse to the Nations Church in Norwood.

Lois Webber owner and franchisee of the nursery said the project would be launched on 20 September. Webber said they would help the Diepsloot community with motivational speaking and training for the youth.

She said, “This includes three sub-categories which are youth career counselling, character and self esteem counselling, addiction counselling and plenty more.” Webber added that there would also be soccer training, cricket coaching and leadership training to enable street children to become soccer coaches.

In addition, nursery school teacher, Marina Carrolus would teach church staff how to run a basic Sunday school.

“We have secured suppliers and personal individuals that will be donating basic food items so that the church can host all the programmes. We will be doing a handover of many donated items as well as furniture for some of the more underprivileged nursery schools donated by King Edward Preparatory.”

Webber said all the training and sport coaching would be free of charge and available to the whole community.

“This will give hope and educate the community that when someone uneducated and poverty stricken can become an asset or trainer in the community, it will instil belief to the rest of the community to better themselves.”
