Yeoville police arrested a man for allegedly being in posessesion of unlicensed firearm while hiding in a dilapidated building in the area.

Yeoville police arrested a man for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

According to police, the 27-year-old suspect was arrested at the corner of Hunter Street and Kenmere Road. Yeoville police spokesperson, Thabo Malatji said the police were on routine stop and search patrol when they noticed a man hiding in a dilapidated building.

Malatji said, “The police searched him and found a firearm in his possession and asked for the licence to possess a firearm which he could not produce.”

He added that the suspect was taken to Yeoville Police Station and detained. The police found out that the firearm was reported stolen in the Hillbrow policing area in June this year. Malatji said the suspect was expected to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
