Police make breakthrough in Yeoville arrest

Yeoville - Three men were arrested in Yeoville after they were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The suspects were arrested at the corner of Minors and Fortesque steets after Jeppe police received a tip-off about one of them.

Constable Thabo Malatji of the Yeoville police said they were investigating a different case on 16 June when they received the tip-off.

“They found a suspect in the company of two males and they were searched… one suspect was found in possession of a firearm and he could not produce the license to possess it,” he said.

Malatji added that the police had reason to believe that the same firearm was used to commit robberies in Jeppe, and that the suspects were linked.

The three suspects were arrested and are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
