Serious crimes hit norwood

Serious crimes continue to rage Norwood precinct community as in separate incidents, cases were reported ranging from separate theft of motor vehicles, theft out of motor vehicle, business robbery and armed robbery were reported.

Serious crimes continue to plague the Norwood community with two cases of theft of motor vehicles being reported. According to police this has raised alarm in the area.

Norwood police spokesperson Constable Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane said the community needed to be vigilant as in some cases the owners of the vehicles hadn’t taken all the necessary precautions. Tsonyane said, “People need to take all the necessary precautionary measures when they park their cars in the street.”

In one of the incidents which took place on Grant Avenue, the driver parked his employer’s white Hyundai bakkie with registration TCM 043GP. When he returned to the vehicle, he saw a man wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans stealing it. According to Tsoanyane the man tried to run after the bakkie and stop the suspect, but was unable to.

In another incident, a car was stolen in Neville Road. Tsoanyane said according to the woman, when she went home for lunch her husband’s Toyota Prado was parked outside their house, but when she got home after work in the evening, the car was no longer there.

Tsonayne said the woman told police that all the doors and windows were locked while the car was parked there.

She said the victim approached her neighbours and a security guard who told her they had not seen anything.

The value of the cars is R90 000 and R150 000 respectively.

Tsoanyane added that a series of cases of theft out of motor vehicles were reported recently and urged the public to be careful when they park their cars in the road.

Tsoanyane said, “We need our community to be very careful, these incidents are raising an alarm in our area.”
