Caught red-handed

Yeoville – Police arrested two men in connection with theft out of motor vehicles in the area.

According to police, they made the first arrest during a routine patrol in Cavendish Road when they spotted a man who was forcing open a window of a vehicle parked on the street. Police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji said, “The suspect took out a bag from inside the vehicle and when he noticed the police he ran away. The police gave a chase and apprehended him a few blocks away and he was taken to Yeoville police station for detention.”

Malatji said in another incident the police arrested a man who was stealing goods off the back of a bakkie. He said the owner of the vehicle had parked his vehicle and went inside a shop. “When he returned he saw three men offloading goods at the back of his vehicle.” he said. “When he approached them, two managed to run away and he grabbed the third suspect.”

The bakkie owner called the police and the suspect was arrested. Both suspects were expected to appear at the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court.
