Painting the river blue

JOBURG - The Belloord sponsored Klip series of races hosted by Florida Lake Canoe Club presented the first compulsory race of the series in enjoyable spring weather conditions.

The 22km race from Daleside through Henley-on-Klip to Meyerton, was a perfect re-introduction to river races for those paddlers who have been hibernating through winter.

With the major national most popular race on the calendar, the Hansa Fish River Marathon scheduled to take place in six weeks time in Cradock in the Eastern Cape, the race had the biggest turnout this year with over 100 boats finishing.

Barry and Pauline Painting from Parkmore have invested more into their relationship as canoeing partners.

While Barry has been a canoeist for many years, Pauline only started earlier this year and has been gaining experience and qualifying points to be able to do the Hansa Fish River Marathon in September.

Their young son Luc has also been canoeing in the school league so it’s one big happy canoeing family.

The Paintings proved their ability at the Belloord Klip river race, finishing in 1 hour 37 minutes to finish as the 2nd mixed double (male/female combination) and 18th overall, in a field of doubles to compete against.
