A group of elderly were up early one morning to compete against each other in various games as part of a programme, Active aging.

The programme is to ensure care, support, protection and development of the elderly. Chairperson of the Johannesburg Old Persons’ Forum, Sandringham-based Calvin Cornelson said, “We are trying to keep the elderly active even in their golden years.”

The programme is a directive of the Department of Social Development and includes an intergenerational purpose where children can support older people.

The day started with a warm-up and some of the games played included passing the ball, track run and hula-hoop.
