Routine stop and search leads to six arrests

MARLBORO GARDENS - A total of six suspects have been arrested following what started as a routine stop-and-search operation.

Sandton police spokesperson Captain Kym Cloete said that at about 3.30am on 18 July Vispol members performing routine stop and searches arrested a man in possession of an unlicensed firearm. A second man fled the scene. Police were then led to a premises in Sunninghill where dagga and another unlicensed firearm were discovered as well as a VW Polo which had been hijacked in Yeoville. Three more suspects found in the house were arrested.

Later in the day police returned to the house and found two more suspects hiding in a locked bathroom, one being the suspect who had fled from police earlier on.

Cloete said that they would appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on 19 July facing charges of possession of stolen property, possession of dagga and possession of unlicensed firearms.
