Boity ushers in decade-long career with premiere of #OwnYourThrone

JOBURG – Having been one of South Africa’s favourite personalities, the show dives deeper and gives viewers a closer look into Boity’s life and the makings of who she really is on and off screen.

Last week, rapper and media personality extraordinaire, Boity Thulo, made history as the first South African woman to have her own BET reality show following the premiere of Boity: Own Your Throne.

Having been one of South Africa’s favourite personalities, the show dives deeper and gives viewers a closer look into her life and the makings of who she really is on and off screen.

“I felt like I was ready to show people who I truly am because I feel like for a long time I’ve been boxed into a certain personality and I think people have misunderstood me for a long time and this was the perfect opportunity for me to finally show who I truly am,” Boity said at the launch of Own Your Throne.

Boity: Own Your Throne is a13-episode, unscripted reality show that brings viewers along on the star’s quest to define her legacy in the entertainment industry. Premiering 5 February on BET, the show gives viewers a glimpse at how Boity strikes a balance between her business, family, spirituality and music.

“This is really part of our on-going commitment as ViacomCBS Africa to constantly bring storytelling that is our own. It’s really built around elevating black excellence and Boity’s story speaks to that sentiment. I think a lot of people are going to be shocked at what they see on the show because she’s got layers to her,” said co-general manager of ViacomCBS Networks Africa, Monde Twala.

The show also sees Boity usher in a decade in the entertainment industry. The decade saw her dabble in commercials, turn herself into a bankable star and bag brand endorsements, take on acting gigs and finally move towards a career in music.

“At this point in my life, I’m comfortable with who I am and I trust myself and the people around me and regardless of criticism that would come with the show I feel like I’m ready for that,” she said.
