Soli Philander to receive Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Savanna Comic Choice Awards
JOBURG – Savanna Comic Choice Awards announces 2019 finalists.
Hosted under the theme, Funny Money, this year’s Savanna Comic Choice Awards saw a record number of comedians across the continent register to participate.
The biggest change in this year’s competition process was the move from mobile to an online voting for the Audience Choice category. The process saw over 100 000 votes come in for 287 comedians from across 70 countries, highlighting that African comedy is truly a global product.

Finalists for this year’s awards were revealed on Wednesday, 10 July, and the list features the very best comedic talent across the continent. The coveted Waldo statuettes will once again be up for grabs and seeking a new place on the mantles of the most deserving comics this year.

This year’s recipient of the prestigious Lifetime Achiever Award South African actor, director, comedian, playwright and columnist, Soli Philander. As the recipient of the award, Philander will be featured in the ceremonial “Grilling of a Lifetime,” which will take place on 21 August in Joburg.
