SA chefs bag top awards at Gourmand World Cookbook Awards

JOBURG – Zola Nene and Mogau Seshoene bag top honours at the annual Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in China.

The Gourmand Awards, a global food culture event, are renowned for pushing taste buds a step further each year. The awards see cooks, chefs, foodies, culinary writers, and food experts from all over the world come together at the annual gourmand for a celebration of food and culture.

This year, South Africa’s culinary darlings, Zola Nene and Mogau Seshoene bagged top honours at the annual Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. With two cookbooks under her belt, Nene has bagged the world’s best English cookbook by a TV celebrity chef award for her second book, Simply Zola. The award follows Nene’s previous win at the awards for her debut, Simply Delicious.

“Thanks to everyone who was rooting for me for this win! Wow…That’s two books both winning International awards. No pressure for the third book, hey?” Nene said in an Instagram post.

Seshoene’s debut, The Lazy Makoti’s Guide to the Kitchen, took second place in the Best First Cookbook category.

“My heart overflows with joy and pride unimaginable! So proud to have represented my country at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards,” Seshoene said.
