Simmy officially releases third single from acclaimed debut album, Tugela Fairy

JOBURG – A look at Simmy's Tugela Fairy, signature sound, and musical journey.

Following the release of her acclaimed debut project, Tugela Fairy, Simmy has gradually grown into a sought-after singer, performer, and storyteller. The young songstress has carved out a signature sound that fuses neo-soul, electronic house, pop and a dash of catchy isiZulu lyrics that hit your soul in inexplicable ways.

Released November last year, her debut album features a plethora of stand-alone hits and is a cohesive body of work that takes you on a sonic journey that transcends explicable feelings and emotions. Although difficult to choose a favourite song, singles such as Ubala, Umahlalela and the recently released Ngiyesaba have pitted the Sun-El Musician-produced album as a strong contender in this year’s awards season.

“We feed of each other’s energy, but at the same time, there are times where we’ll fight. We know how to work together. It’s not easy but it’s easy at the same time because the product comes out perfectly,” Simmy said about her musical chemistry with Sun-EL Musician.

Simmy officially released her third single, Ngiyesaba, on 12 April. The song relays the trials and tribulations relationships go through and the fear people have of falling in love. Essentially, it lets the listener know that the road to healthy and unrelenting love is not easy – there will be heartbreaks and setbacks. The story narrated by Simmy is complemented by an upbeat melody produced by Sun-El Musician and douses any fears the listener would have had of falling in love.

“Ngiyesaba is one of my favourite tracks on the album and if it was up to me it would’ve been the second single. I’ve been performing Ngiyesaba and I see the feedback and now in a way I had a leg to stand on and it makes sense because the people love the song and I love the song, so why not take a risk with this one,” she said.

Witnessing Simmy’s live performances, airplay and feedback on streaming platforms, social media and YouTube comments, it becomes clear that listeners invite her music and stories into their lives and get to spend pleasurable time with the songstress.

“I love it, I really love it. Before being a vocalist or songwriter I’m a storyteller and for me it’s just beautiful to tell those stories and you find people relating to each song because it’s like a story that they can also relate to. It’s a dope thing for me to see because they’re basically accepting Simmy and who Simmy is an artist,” Simmy said.
