Local wine receives perfect score

JOBURG – The 2015 Kanonkop Paul Sauer wins.

The 2015 Kanonkop Paul Sauer, a South African red wine, has been awarded the first perfect score for a New World wine from UK wine expert, Tim Atkin.

The wine’s rating is Atkin’s first-ever perfect score to a wine in the New World (Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and the US).

Speaking to Business Insider, Atkin said the 2015 Kanonkop Paul Sauer was one of the greatest young wines he has ever tasted. With a 100-point score, the Kanonkop Paul Sauer 2015 is a blend of 70 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon, 15 per cent Merlot and 15 per cent Cabernet Franc.

“To achieve the magical 100pt rating is a huge honour for Kanonkop, Stellenbosch and the South African wine industry as a whole,” said Kanonkop co-owner Johann Krige.

Getting a taste of this perfect wine would set you back between R550 and R665 a bottle.
