JOBURG – City Buzz’ top five phenomenal women performers making a mark in the music industry.

Throughout the course of the year, we’ve seen women make extraordinary moves in the entertainment industry. From releasing super hits to headlining top music festivals these women are bringing much-needed energy and perfecting their craft – no matter the odds against them – to bring a fresh take to an already stellar music itinerary.

Check out City Buzz’ top five phenomenal women performers making a mark in the music industry:

  1. Sho Madjozi

Sho Madjozi came onto the scene with a breakthrough like no other. Known for her fiery performances and putting Xitsonga raps on the map, she has become a staple feature of the music industry and warrants a full-on experience of her live performances.

  1. Moonchild Sanelly

A feature with Moonchild Sanelly will surely turn your song into an instant hit. The Port-Elizabeth born musician has been in the music industry for 12 years and continues to fuse experimental electronic, afro-punk, edgy-pop, kwaito, hip-hop, and jazz into her music – a crossover appeal combo.

  1. Lily Hollows

The 19-year-old singer/songwriter Lily Hollows made a remarkable entry into the music industry with her debut single Daddy I’m Gone.  Having won a number of awards at the SA Championships of Performing Arts (Sacopa), Lily’s inspiration stems from what she sees and feels in her in daily life and turns her experiences into beautiful songs.

  1. Batuk

The globetrotting group, Batuk, came back with a 7-track EP titled Move! an ode to the township roots that shaped them. The group takes on mid-tempo kwaito grooves, hi-energy beats and township funk. Batuk represents a range of vibrant South African township sounds.

  1. Shekinah

Shekinah’s clean sweep of the Samas where she took home three awards, Album of the year, Female artist of the year and Newcomer of the year was not only the highlight of the night but has solidified Shekinah’s status as South Africa’s future pop icon. She continues to grow.
