A music festival that spans six days with over 80 artists and various venues all over the inner city is bound to have memorable moments – moments that’ll gain cult status in the memories of Joburgers for a long time.

The 2018 edition of the Red Bull Music Festival has fashioned itself into an iconic event with Langa Mavuso and Zoe Modiga, two of South Africa’s most electrifying young musicians, setting the tone for the festival with a tribute to South Africa’s musical, political and cultural icons.
Day two of the festival delivered a Round Robin evening for jazz lovers at The Orbit in Braamfontein, an evening that challenged the likes of Luyanda Madope, Bonj Mpanza, Keorapetse Kolwane and Tshepo Tsotetsi to creatively collaborate and perform together for the first time without any sort of rehearsals.
Starting off on a soulful and mellow note, the festival then switched the tempo up and hit attendees with an explosive night of futuristic sounds from the creative collective of Dear Ribane alongside Behr.
Day three ended off on an explosive note with pumping reggae and dancehall sounds from the legendary Admiral and Jah Seed duo with performances from Mad Mugo, Botanist and the Dancehall Queens.
Friday nights in Braamfontein will never be the same again, following a night of old school kwaito and house jams, progressive house, gqom and hip-hop with performances spread out throughout Braam’s buzzing venues. Veteran DJs, Oskido, Glen Lewis and DJ Tira brought 94 Republic down alongside performances by Kid X and the legendary Trompies while DJ Lag brought the full force of gqom to Kitcheners alongside energetic performances from Moonchild Sanelly, Angel-Ho and Stiff Pap. A packed Great Dane was blessed with performances by hip-hop’s new school featuring Rouge, Moozlie and 2LeeStark amongst others.
Skepta, the festival’s headline act, shut down Fox Junction on day five alongside South Africa’s own musos Shekhinah, Langa Mavuso, 340 Million, Gina Jeanz and Dwson.
