Skepta set to shut down Jozi

JOBURG – Grime superstar headlines Red Bull Music Festival.

The Red Bull Music Festival returns to Joburg’s inner city with a celebration of artists that have pushed the limits in South African music over the years and this year’s edition is sure to shut down Johannesburg with Skepta headlining the event.

The UK grime star will perform for the first time in South Africa at Fox Junction on Saturday, 7 April. Skepta will grace Joburgers on the main festival night which features three stages showcasing future beats, RnB and deep house. The main night features local musos such as Shekhinah, Langa Mavuso, 340 Million, Gina Jeanz and Capetonian Dwson.

Skepta has been at the forefront of grime for over 10 years and fans can expect to see an adrenaline-charged show featuring smash hits such as Shutdown, Konnichiwa, Man and That’s Not Me.

Just in case you might run into some longtime Skepta fans, we decided to hook you up with a few quick facts about Skepta:

  1. Born Joseph ‘Junior’ Adenuga to Nigerian parents.
  2. An avid listener of reggae music but got introduced to hip-hop after listening to Snoop Dog’s Doggystyle album.
  3. Skepta, along with his brother and fellow grime superstar, JME, started Boy Better Know (BBK).
  4. Only started rapping at 21
  5. Collaborated with the likes of Kanye West, Drake and A$AP Mob.
