Proceedings in the case of Hillbrow mass-murder accused Sabelo Ngubane (29), got underway at the Johannesburg Regional Court on 14 June, with a final decision on an indictment still outstanding.
During his brief appearance, the court heard that Ngubane, who stands accused of five counts of murder following the brutal killings of three women and two minors in an apartment in Hillbrow on 20 February, took the decision to abandon his bail application during a formal bail hearing on 31 May.
His reasons for abandoning bail were, however, not disclosed.
The court heard that a decision to transfer the case to the South Gauteng High Court has still not been finalised, even though a provisional decision in the matter had already been reached in May.
The case was postponed to 13 July and Ngubane was remanded in custody at Johannesburg Central Prison until his next court appearance.
