Rapper One Way wants to become a household name

JOBURG – A DJ and music lover compiles a music project with an idol-turned-friend.

A young DJ, Hector the Xquizifire, is looking to promote fellow musicians.

Hector the Xquizifire has been on the music scene for more than just a few years and, as a DJ and music video producer, he is also looking to promote the work of up-and-coming musicians and artists in the industry – the most recent of which is rapper Vusimuzi ‘One Way’ Langa.

Having met One Way a few years ago, a partnership flourished and has turned into a solid project for the collaborators.

“Ever since I met him in 2011 or 2012, we’ve been working together. I heard him on Yfm and I became a fan. I met him when I was buying his mixtape and then we got talking. I shared some things that I know and some things that he knows and now we’ve put together a project. I chose the songs – songs from when he first began,” said Hector the Xquizifire.

The project is called XquizifiedOne and One Way explained why he raps and how he got his name.

“First of all, hip hop is a birthright; secondly it’s a platform for me to spread the message that I’d like for people to hear and third, it’s the most basic form of expression for me. It’s the only way for me to express myself and reach out to people. When I started out rapping, I used to have one flow – a basic flow – and they used to say I rap ‘one way’, so that’s how the name came about,” One Way explained.

The album, which is available on Audiomack, is a project that both parties are proud of and due to the great chemistry in their music, they are hoping to continue the partnership.

Hector the Xquizifire concluded, “We’ve been working together for the past five years and I don’t think it’s going to change soon. I started working with him as a fan and now he’s even asked me to be his manager.”
