#Helpfindk: Missing teenager found

PARK STATION – The search for the missing teenager, Kitso Mothibe, came to an end after she was reportedly found by a family member while at Park Station in Johannesburg on 20 May .

The search for Kitso Mothibe (13) came to an end on on 20 May after a family member reportedly found her at Park Station in Johannesburg, almost a month after she was allegedly kidnapped in the inner city.

City Buzz reported previously that a joint law enforcement task team, led by the Office of the Mayor conducted raids on the hijacked Cape York as well as several other buildings, in attempts to find the missing teen after her father appealed on national radio for his daughter’s safe return on 18 May, however, alleging that he knew where she was being held.

Following her discovery two days after the raids, provincial police spokesperson, Captain Kay Makhubele said Mothibe had been taken to a place of safety where she will receive rehabilitation. “She was found by a family member while in Park Station and taken to a doctor for examination and later to a place of safety,” said Makhubele.

“There was no kidnapping case reported or that of a missing person until they came on Thursday last week where we advised them to open a missing person’s case as the child had [reportedly] been out of the house for the past three weeks. At the moment we’ve called off the search as we’ve found the girl.”

Makhubele added that the allegation that Mothibe had been kidnapped was incorrect, indicating instead that she had left on her own accord. “The allegation brought forward was incorrect. There was no kidnapping case reported. She’d moved away from home willingly,” he said. “If the child had been kidnapped, a case should’ve been opened the same day they realised that she had not returned home.

“We don’t know why she left home, but what we do know is that the child had been moving from home since October last year. She was moving out and coming back. Even after she left home three weeks back, she’d left on her own will.”

Report missing person’s on the South African Police’s hotline on 086 001 0111.
