This musician aims to make it big

JOBURG – Lil Biggs has a voice that he wants to share.

He’s young, unsigned and ready to make his entry into the world of professional music.

Themba Bongani Ndhlovu, who recently recorded a single in Rosebank, is a 26-year-old unsigned rapper from Pretoria who hopes to become known by his stage name, Lil Biggs.

Although he may only be gaining momentum as a starting-out musician now, he began his journey more than five years ago.

“I started my music career in 2009 when I was 19-years-old. Nobody believed in me – from friends to family – because it started as a joke and at that time it was only the beginning of my hip hop music career. I went from being a DJ to a rapper,” he explained.

Talking about the person who has had the greatest impact on his life, and the driving force behind his music career, Lil Biggs said, “Only my mom always believed in me and I’ll always appreciate it because I was raised by a single parent. I always knew that my mom knows me better than everyone else. She were very, very proud.”

While his mother has been a pillar of support in his life, he attributes his strength to his father.

“My father left us at a very young age. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here because growing up without a dad made me realise that I have to be tough and strong. That’s why I’m still fighting, struggling and hustling to get through.”

Unfortunately, life dealt this dreamer a major blow in 2015 when his mother passed away, on the cusp of a pivotal moment in his journey when an influential hip hop magazine had shown interest in the musician’s skills.

However, he was met with further disappointment after the magazine was no longer eager to help him gain exposure and so he kept pushing on.

“So right now I’m working on my new single Romeo that will be released on 12 May,” he said.

Also hoping to gain some airtime with his track, Nyoso, Lil Biggs is paying his dues in hopes of reaching his dream to become a local superstar.
