Maboneng’s very own fashion week

JOBURG – Maboneng to show its unique style this year.

This year, Maboneng Fashion Week will be held in October and will show what up-and-coming designers of the area have to offer the local fashion industry.

Maria Foster, the creator of the fashion line House of Kongo, hopes to get all aspiring designers to show what they’ve got by hosting the first annual Maboneng Fashion Week. This exciting event will serve as an opportunity to increase economic development in the area of fashion design and, equally as important, to enhance the visibility of the nation’s capital, Johannesburg, as a centre of international fashion and clothing design.

Foster announced the plans for the inner city fashion extravaganza at a runway show held at The Saxon Villa and Spa in Sandton. The fashion designer aims to make each person that she dresses confident about their style, and by doing so empowering lovers of fashion – a goal that should be shared among all the fashionistas who aim to take part in fashion week.

Foster explained, “Maboneng Fashion Week was established as a platform for designers to showcase street fashion through creativity and a passion for Maboneng. A city we believe will be elevated by benefiting from new themes as well as extended media coverage.”

The details of the fashion week are yet to be confirmed, but if the culture and creativity of the area are anything to go by, this one will be just as exciting as South African Fashion Week itself – and maybe even give it a run for its money.
