Two new judges for the Miss South Africa 2017 pageant have been announced – TV personality, Maps Maponyane, and radio presenter, Bridget Masinga.

During the next six weeks, and the months running up to when Miss South Africa 2017 is crowned, Maponyane and Masinga will form part of the regional judging panel, along with other guest judges.

As one of the founding presenters on the hugely successful TV show All Access, Masinga has cemented her brand as one of South Africa’s leading entertainers and is also the new presenter and producer of Jacaranda FM’s weekday mid-morning show, The Workzone with Bridget Masinga.

“I think my journey with Miss South Africa, which began in 2002 when I was second runner-up and then subsequently one of the hosts on The Road to Miss South Africa, puts me in the perfect position to have intimate knowledge of the expectations versus the realities of the title,” she said.

Maponyane is considered one of SA’s most stylish and sexiest men and is an admired media personality. Multi-talented as a TV presenter, model, actor, style icon, designer, businessman and philanthropist, he makes waves both locally and internationally. “I’m very excited to be a judge. I think that it’s going be a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to seeing all the potential Miss SA’s,” Maponyane said.

With already-formed ideas of what they’re looking for in the next queen, the esteemed judges let us in on what qualities she should possess. “People must be able to relate to her. It’s important to me that Miss South Africa is rooted in who she is while still maintaining a connection with her peers,” Masinga said.

“Figure out what makes you an individual and harness that quality to build something magical. Don’t be shy to stand tall in your light.”

Maponyane weighed in, “I’m looking for someone who is confident, smart and passionate, with an element of beauty. Someone to represent South Africa to the world and show best what our country has to offer. She needs to be a great ambassador.”
