Pop stars take over the industry

JOBURG – The sisters who make up DéMonique are making their name known in the music world.

Two sisters are singing and dancing their way to international stardom.

Deme and Niqi Harris are the show-stopping young women who form part of the up-and-coming South African pop sensation, DéMonique.

The dynamic pair started their career in their hometown of Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal and have since taken their love of singing and dancing from some of the roughest streets to some of the biggest stages in South Africa.

They continue to pursue their dream in order to convey a message to the youth and their fans. “Where you come from should not determine where you’re going – success is a choice! Music is the biggest part of who we are and we don’t know life without it,” the girls explained.

Since kicking off their professional careers in 2008 and moving to the City of Gold, the sisters have accomplished a number of amazing feats in the industry – accomplishments that take years of hard work, perseverance and dedication.

DéMonique has opened concerts for a number of international acts including Latino rap sensation, Pitbull; twice for singer Jay Sean; and even a music industry heavyweight, Fatman Scoop, as well as local Idols winner, Khaya Mthetwa.

From their two released albums Ain’t That Innocent and First & Foremost, the singer sisters have had four singles that have reached number one on various music charts. What’s more is that these

two are dedicated to their craft, have signed with Testo records and are writers of all their own material.

Even better than their musical talents is their philanthropic nature.

DéMonique’s WOW! I Feel Great campaign was initiated with endorsement by the Department of Education and is aimed at educating school pupils on certain topics including HIV/Aids, among other important social issues.
