Fox precinct receives makeover

JOBURG – Check out what The Sheds@1Fox has to offer.

The Fox Precinct has been revamped and the Sheds@1Fox now have more to offer hipsters in the city.

“The entire Fox Precinct changed. If you have been to Fox before, you certainly need to go again to see the changes to the precinct,” said Deresh Moodley, leasing executive at Summit Management Services.

What visitors to the trendy site may not have known is that the Fox Precinct has been a longstanding part of the community and has a rich history preceding what is now a hipster hotspot.

According to the blog, lizatlancaster, the precinct has been standing since the late 19th century and it was created with the erection of a number of buildings in order to create warehouses and workshops for a prominent engineering company that worked on the mines in Johannesburg.

The engineering company, Hubert Davies and Company, closed the premises in the 60s and by 2008, the site was still abandoned. However, developers had already shown an interest in revamping it.

The location became known as The Sheds@1Fox in 2014 when a number of new, exciting, artisanal start-ups and entrepreneurs bought into the fresh idea of creating a space where people could hang out, socialise and enjoy some great artisanal foods and drinks.

Since the much-anticipated reopening on 25 June, there are new things to see, eat and enjoy at The Sheds@1Fox. The old market space was seen on the right of the venue, but this shed now opens out onto the north-facing outside area which is the Fox Junction Event Venue, and currently houses an interesting Johannesburg-themed art exhibition.

There is also the craft and clothing market shed, where the Wildlife Photography exhibition is currently open. The popular Good Luck Bar is still a fixture at the venue, bringing people in for drinks and music.

New to the precinct is the industrially-styled Mad Giant Craft Brewery and Urbanologi Restaurant where visitors can get their fix of craft drinks and delicious food.

There’s so much more to enjoy.
