Foodies talk Melville hotspots

MELVILLE - We love only one thing more than the city itself, and that’s the food that can be found at the corner cafes and hipster hangouts in the city.

After exploring Melville to see the new stores and restaurants that have popped up in the area, City Buzz wanted to get a foodie’s take on the best spots to grab a bite.

Who better to talk to about food than the community management lead at the company that runs the restaurant discovery app that’s taken the world by storm, Zomato’s Justin Griesel.

Our foodie opted to let us in on what the biggest foodies on the app had to say about his three top-rated spots in Melville.

“Melville is just full of surprises and The Great Eastern Food Bar is one of them,” said foodie Genevieve Law.

“This is fusion food done at its best. The unusual choice[s]… are all delicious – from the drinking vinegar to the scallion pancakes. Our favourites were the kimchi dumplings and the sticky wings, but we just wanted to continue ordering everything.”

Commenting on the restaurant, The Countess, Robert Ellis noted, “We had such a fantastic meal here. I had the brisket lasagna which was so tasty and full of flavour and the bacon cheeseburger was also amazing. I really loved the side dishes as well, the truffle mac and cheese was great and so was the cauliflower mash. In an awesome location with good service.”

Anthea Chittenden, commenting on the food at Café Mexicho said, “If you enjoy intense flavours and [an] artistic Mexican ambience, this is the place to go. A firm favourite, as the food is appetizing and the portions generous.

“A warm-hearted engaging owner and staff add a special touch. Chili Poppers seem to be popular as almost all tables ordered them. Try the juicy beef Burrito Especiales, it’s enormous and stuffed to the max. The Chimichanga, Chili Con Carne and Fajita are recommended. It’s the real Mexican deal.

“All fab washed down with a Corona or a super chilled Margarita. If [you’re] more adventurous, their range of Tequila will certainly get you in the party mood.”
