Alex hosts music festival with a difference

ALEXANDRA - The township is gearing up for a mother of all parties with a social conscience to be held on 2 April at the KwaBhekilanga Sports Ground.

Alexandra is gearing up for the mother of all parties with a social conscience to be held on 2 April at the KwaBhekilanga Sports Ground.

One of the event organisers and co-founder of the Alex Music Festival, Alex-born Bheki Mahlangu, now a resident of Lyndhurst, said the festival was a vehicle to raise funds for stationery for schools, and help clothe and feed the 500 children of Ratang Bana which supports child-headed households, and others, within the community.

“We will ring in some changes for the second edition of the festival, having learnt from the first edition in 2014 – instead of asking the party-goers to donate items as their means of entry, we have slightly changed that and are charging an entrance fee of R60.

“Out of that R60, R50 will go towards the purchase of items for the children while the rest goes to the running of the festival, as we do not have sponsors,” Mahlangu said, adding that the line-up for the festival would be announced on 15 February when all the contractual issues have been finalised.

He said tickets for the festival could be purchased at the door or Computicket and indicated that it was strictly for over 18s. There will be three bars and a VIP area, and about 20 DJs will perform.

Tickets at the door will be R100 for general and R200 for VIP.
