Zakes Bantwini and AKA face off
JOBURG - Local music industry heavyweights will take to the soccer field once more to battle it out for a good cause.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and local dance and kwaito musician, Zakes Bantwini, will face off against local rapper, AKA, to redeem himself after last year’s defeat.
This time last year saw Bantwini challenged by AKA to select a celebrity soccer team and go head-to-head in support of Bantwini’s initiative, 1Goal4Cancer. It was an honourable fight which was won by Team AKA, and they won the privilege of shaving off Bantwini’s hair.
Bantwini started this initiative after he lost his mother to cancer in 2007.
“This is a cause so close to my heart, and I’m grateful that AKA and all our players are joining me in this important awareness campaign,” he said.
“Also, a special shoutout to Nike and Adidas for getting behind the teams. Early detection of breast cancer means giving someone a chance to survive this terrible disease. Let’s do this in the name of 1Goal4Cancer.”
The star-studded soccer match, which is being organised by event company ECHO, is due to take place at Discovery Soccer Park in Sandton on 2 November due to a busy overseas travel schedule in October for Bantwini and AKA.
The teams will be looking super stylish on the pitch this year, with Team Zakes’ kit being sponsored by Adidas and Team AKA’s kit being sponsored by Nike.

Team Zakes includes Doctor Khumalo, Daine Klate, Donald, Slikour, Good Hope FM’s DJ Lloyd, Minnie Dlamini, Moneoa and Pearl Thusi.
Team AKA includes Lennox Bacela of Tuks FC, Darren and Ryan known as Twins on Decks, DJ Fanatic, DJ Franky, Kwesta, Nandi Mngoma, Kid X, Ma-E and Siya Mdluli.
