Sky high in Braam

BRAAMFONTEIN - Located at 76 Juta Street – in the heart of the vibrant Braamfontein area – the new rooftop venue, Thirteen, opened with song and dance.

Braamfontein is known for its vibrant nightlife and buzzing atmosphere and it was no different on 15 October when Thirteen was officially opened to the public as a host venue for events of all kinds.

The open-air rooftop boasts an impressive space of 400m² on the classically revived 13th floor of the Juta Street building, and sets the scene for every occasion.

The grand opening was mellow and cool with some smooth jazz and a killer view of the brightly-lit Nelson Mandela Bridge and the surrounding Johannesburg areas.

Not only were the lights of the city a spectacular sight, but the grand opening of the venue was kicked off with spectacular fireworks that filled the still night sky with something just a little magical.

This venue was opened as part of Play Braamfontein, a concept that was fully explained by Dionne Domyan-Mudie of the Publicity Workshop who said, “Adam [Levy] started Play Braamfontein 12 years ago and he explained that it was his dream to bring beautiful venues to urban spaces.” Levy is the mind behind venues in Braamfontein such as Neighbougoods Market, the Alexander Theatre, Thirteen and The Beach.

The entire night was set to a unique style of jazz-folk music by South African singer and songwriter, Pilani Bubu, who had the crowd moving all night long.

Entertainment industry heavyweights such as Takunda Bimha, who manages South Africa’s top comedians and organised the Johannesburg International Comedy Festival, and funny man, Kagiso Lediga, attended the opening of the rooftop venue.

The entrance to the venue is conveniently set between Anti Est., the trendy restaurant and bar, and The Smokehouse and Grill – so whether you want to see the city from the top or from the bottom, 76 Juta has it all for you.
