Work towards a green South Africa

KIBLER PARK – It's all about recycling in September … so it’s no surprise that a finalist of the Schwarzkopf Professional Mrs South Africa pageant partnered up with Mpact Recycling to visit the Jolly Tots Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre to teach the little ones about the importance of recycling.

During Clean-up Week and Recycle Day, the Schwarzkopf Professional Mrs South Africa finalists were challenged to create awareness and educate others on the importance of recycling and going green through either school and community visits.

Finalist Mampa Sekoba-Diakanyo visited Jolly Tots ECD Centre, which has been around for 11 years and can accommodate 160 children. “We gathered the children for a fun-filled presentation by myself; Yasmeen Adam, Mpact Recycling marketing representative; and Ronnie Recycler, the Mpact mascot; to educate the kids about the importance of recycling,” said Sekoba-Diakanyo.

The centre was specifically chosen because they were initially selected as part of Sekoba-Diakanyo’s first project during the early stages of her Mrs South Africa journey.

“Teaching our kids about recycling is important to me as it empowers them to grow up being team players in creating conducive environments to live in, protecting our natural habitats, saving energy, water and landfill space within our towns and cities,” added Sekoba-Diakanyo.

Mpact Recycling is South Africa’s largest paper recycler and is responsible for the collection of over 450 000 tonnes of paper each year, which is received from a number of sources including trolley-preneurs, country dealers, small businesses, buy-back centres, schools and communities.
